MOSAICS: PERSONAL VIDEO ESSAY

Challenge: The task was straightforward yet open-ended—we were asked to create a two- to five-minute video essay about ourselves. With no strict guidelines beyond this, the challenge lay in deciding how to meaningfully represent identity in such a short span. This lack of direction granted creative freedom but also required a clear, compelling concept to avoid making something too broad or unfocused.

Creation: Who Am I? is a deeply personal video essay inspired by a phrase my mother has repeated throughout my life: "We are only a mosaic of everyone and everything we've encountered." This idea forms the foundation of my exploration of identity—not as a fixed construct but as a constantly evolving composition shaped by our interactions, relationships, and experiences.

Through a reflective narrative, I weave together moments, people, and places that have shaped me, illustrating how identity is never singular but a collage of influences. Using personal footage, interviews, voiceover, and symbolic imagery, I highlight how even the smallest encounters leave lasting imprints, much like individual tiles in a mosaic. The piece ultimately challenges the notion of self-definition, suggesting that who we are is not static but in perpetual motion, continuously reshaped by the world around us.
